The proposed 1.1 mile trail in Acton is marked in red. The town has acquired a trail easement across the southern half of the trail, which is on private property. The northern half, owned by the MBTA, is now leased to Acton.

![]() In 1886, the Marlborough branch of the Fitchburg RR was already more than 30 years old. South Acton was a small village then, built around the intersection of the main Boston-Fitchburg RR and the Marlborough branch. In this reproduction of a 1886 poster, the proposed Assabet River Rail Trail is highlighted in green and marks the location of the old Marlborough branch. The still active Boston-Fitchburg/B&M/MBTA rail line is marked in red. |
